We at Watsonian Cricket Club were all shocked and saddened by the untimely death of Watsonian rugby great Scott Hastings a few days ago. Many fitting tributes have been paid by the rugby world to a true giant of the game who represented both Scotland and the British and Irish Lions with great skill, dedication, and sportsmanship.
Although rugby dominated Scott’s sporting life, he played for the cricket club during the early 1980s, representing the Club in more than 20 matches and sharing a century partnership with our then professional, Sylvester Oliver, against Radlett CC in 1984. Throughout his life, he remained a true champion of all the Watsonian sporting clubs.
During the last few years, Scott experienced many difficulties but he faced these challenges with courage and always with a smile on his face. As such, he was a great example to us all and will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with his family to whom we extend our deepest condolences.
