Against Stoneywood Dyce at People’s Park last Saturday, Oli Hairs broke the club record for runs scored in a season - excluding performances by professionals.
The previous record - which has stood for 94 years - was passed in the course of Oli registering his 8th half-century of the season. He also has 3 centuries to his credit so far.
The complete list of those who have exceeded 1,000 runs in a season now reads
• 1975 K.J. Hughes 2,017
• 1984 S.C. Oliver 1,360
• 1991 A.C Storie 1,340
• 1997 C.O. Finlay 1.155
• 1986 S.L. Saunders 1,088
• 2022 O.J. Hairs 1,077
• 1928 J.D. Martin 1,012
Given Oli’s current form, and with at least five more matches yet to be played, this list may yet need to be amended later in the season!
In terms of runs scored in league matches, there are only two non-professionals who have recorded more than Oli’s 642 to date, these being Ken Scott and Ewan Chalmers. The complete list of leading league run-scorers is
• 1991 A.C. Storie 977
• 2009 A.H. Delmont 862
• 2006 J.M. Henderson 797
• 1995 K. Scott 722
• 2005 J.M. Henderson 711
• 1984 S.C. Oliver 710
• 1999 G.R. Parker 675
• 2016 E.F. Chalmers 649
With four more league matches yet to be played, this list would appear likely to require to be revised!
