WCC Ladies XI vs Edinburgh South XI

with No Comments
Cracking weather for a game of cricket at Myreside and with a full team on the scoresheet, spirits were high.

Victoria undertook her captaining debut and would have got nowhere without sideline council from Lyndsay. Watsonians put on a valiant fielding effort, with very few runs given away unnecessarily. Bowling this week from Victoria, Holly, Sarah, Felicia, Denise and Yvette. Three wickets fell in the Edinburgh South innings. The first wicket came from Victoria trapping K. White in for 29. The second saw E. Phipps run out for 16, with a cracking throw from Sarah to the keeper’s end. The final wicket fell to Denise who trapped M. Paton in front for 3. There was superb wicket keeping performance from Becca with Sally as a faithful backup for the 5 that got past! Denise and Susan put their bodies on the line stopping boundary destined balls, however the award for dedication has to go to Yvette who dived her way around the pitch attempting to stop runs. Sarah and Jas bravely defended the boundary at deep extra cover to stop the many many pull shots.

A special mention to C. Holland who was unbeaten on 59 not out!

After breaking for tea, Watsonians had to face some excellent bowling. Holly boldly stepped up to face the first ball, but unfortunately the top order were quickly picked off one by one. Once we settled into the batting, Sarah and Felicia developed a good partnership followed by Sarah and Denise. Next up was Fiona, who after running onto the pitch and accidently joining the opposition huddle, hit the only 6 of the game. Sally and Susan saw out the game, but unfortunately we were unable to reach the century mark this time.

A massive thank you to the umpires, David and Lawrence and groundsman, Kris.

Great effort from the girls for the first game of the season, we look forward to next Sunday!
