We are pleased to announce that outdoor training sessions for our junior section will commence on Monday 7th May for younger players and girls and on Tuesday 8th May for U14 age groups and above.
Boys and girls of all levels of ability and experience will receive professional coaching from the staff of 619 Coaching including current Scotland international and Watsonian 1st XI player George Munsey. All training takes place at Myreside Pavilion on Myreside Road.
Our coaching programme this year includes the ECB’s All Stars Cricket programme running from 6pm to 7pm on Mondays for eight weeks from 7th May to 25th June inclusive. This programme is aimed at children in P2 and P3 who have had no previous experience of cricket. More information about this programme including registration details and cost will be posted shortly.
Children in P3 to P7 and our girls group train from 6.15pm on Mondays. Several groups will be running to accommodate different levels of experience, including soft ball only groups and the U12 hard ball group. Children will be allocated to appropriate groups on arrival by our coaches. Younger children and girls finish at 7.15pm while P6 and P7 children finish at 7.30pm.
Our U14 and U16 squads train on Tuesdays between 5pm and 6.30pm.
Eligibility for age groups is determined by a child’s age at 1st September 2017. For example, a child aged 14 or under on that date is eligible to play at U14 level. Coaches will advise on the most appropriate groups in case of doubt.
Training sessions run throughout the summer, finishing on August 7th.
Watsonian CC enjoys close links with George Watson’s College and shares its facilities but the Club is open to all.
The first training sessions on 7th and 8th May are free taster sessions (except for the All Stars Cricket program). If you have never tried cricket before or been away from the game, please come along and try it out with no obligation.
Players continuing to train at later sessions are required to pay the term’s fees of £90 for U12/U14/U16 or £75 for all other groups, unless you have previously paid for annual junior membership. These fees should be paid by direct bank payment to Watsonian Cricket Club sort code 80-41-21, account number 00939905. Please include the player’s name, age group and ‘Junior Cricket’ as a reference to your payment e.g. ‘Sam Smith U12 Junior Cricket’.
It is extremely important for parents to register on the Club’s website at www.watsoniancricket.com/register. If you have previously registered, please login (via the button at the top right hand corner of the website) and check that your contact details remain up to date. A link to reset forgotten passwords is available. Using the website in this way allows you to have visibility and control over the information that we hold on you and allows us to reduce the time spent administering our membership information, instead focusing on organising great cricket for the players.
Parent helpers are invaluable to the smooth running of these sessions and the children’s enjoyment of them. No coaching or indeed cricketing experience is required to help out. Please get in touch to volunteer or find out more.
Details of an open evening with more information on the organisation of our Junior section will be announced soon.
If you have any questions, or to volunteer your help, please contact email@example.com.
