It is with great regret that the Club notes Martin Macari passed away, much too early, on 17th February. Martin was a stalwart of the Club, playing as a batsman and wicket-keeper for all three sides between 1986 and 2002. In that period he featured in 156 games for the 1st XI, scoring 1,302 runs (with a top score of 60), taking 6 wickets (with a best of 5 for 20) and accounting for 121 victims (99 catches and 22 stumpings). During his time as an active playing member Martin also served for 2 years as Honorary Secretary, while he also edited the Club’s newsletter between 1995 and 2002. The thought-provoking, amusing and often irreverent observations in Martin’s writing were a constant source of interest and enjoyment. This mirrored his approach to the game – and to his team-mates.
The Club’s thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
