Junior fixtures – starting 30th April

with No Comments

The program of junior match fixtures is now available on our website here: https://www.watsoniancricket.com/jnr-fixtures/

Matches take place on Monday nights for U14 (S1&S2), Wednesday nights for U16 (S3&S4) and Friday nights for U12 (P6&P7). The season kicks off week commencing Monday 30th April for each of these age groups. The club will be fielding two teams at U12 and U14, one at U16.

In addition, there are a number of Kwik Cricket festivals taking place on Sunday mornings over the summer, starting on 13th May at Carlton, for the U10 age group. Watsonian will be hosting our own Kwik Cricket festival on Sunday 24th June which promises to be a great event – watch this space for more information.

All matches start at 6pm, teams to assemble at 5.45pm for pre-match briefings and warm-ups.

Information on match formats and scoring can be found on the Cricket Scotland website here: http://www.cricketscotland.com/junior-formats/

Selection is done by our coaching staff and organised through the Teamer app. Parents who have registered on the club’s website and paid for the term’s training (or previously paid for annual membership) will be sent a link to join the relevant squads on Teamer.

To strike the right balance of participation, skill development and competitiveness we follow the selection principles below:
– U16 – field the strongest squad that we can select
– U14 – seek to develop strong teams whilst ensuring that everybody in the squad gets to play over the summer (bear in mind we also have two teams)
– U12 and Kwik Cricket – the emphasis is on participation and enjoyment so everybody will be given plenty of opportunity

A fuller team selection policy will be made available on our website shortly.

Each team will be overseen by a dedicated team manager throughout the summer, assisted by match managers where required. More information about how the junior section is now organised and how the summer program is intended to run will be provided at our open evening at Myreside Pavilion next Tuesday 1st May. Full details to follow.

Teamer and Twitter (@wcc_colts) will be our principal communication tools for match-related information.

It would be great to see the U14 and U16 teams turn out in club whites. U12 players should please wear the club white t-shirt with any navy or black track pants. We have partnered with Superlogo to provide club kit, see their site here: http://www.superlogo.co.uk/acatalog/Watsonian-CC.html Orders may take 10-14 days to arrive. Whilst it is tempting and economical for those who have it to re-use GWC kit, it will really help to build the identity of the club as an open-to-all organisation if players can be provided with a minimum of club kit. There is no specific kit requirement for training sessions.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch with any queries using the contact page in the Junior section of the website.
