We’ve had a fantastic term of junior cricket so far and there has been no more glorious sight than seeing 125 or so U10s from 8 different clubs on 8 pitches at a balmy Myreside this morning for our hugely successful Kwik Cricket Festival. Enormous thanks to all of the volunteers whose efforts made it possible – the Junior Committee, the U10 match managers, the group co-ordinators, our groundsman Willie Morton, everyone who contributed to and ran the bake sale, the raffle ticket sellers and, of course, the players and parents. Well over £600 was raised (exact figure to follow) from the raffle ticket and bake sales for Sporting Start, whose representatives were extremely grateful for your support and generosity. The Watsonian players looked fantastic in their new T-shirts and did us proud on the pitch.
The coming week is the last week of matches before the July break. Let’s see if our U12A can continue their unbeaten run all the way through the term! Matches resume on 30th July and run all the way through August. The full fixture list is on the website.
Our Monday and Tuesday night training sessions continue without a break, finishing on Tuesday August 7th. Tomorrow will be a special occasion, marking the last of this year’s All Stars sessions. There will be a BBQ running during the session so parents, grandparents and siblings are encouraged to come along and soak up the long evening’s sunshine and the buzz of Monday night junior training with a burger in hand.
We hope the All Stars have enjoyed their first foray into cricket as much as we have enjoyed hearing their shouts and cheers at training. Any budding cricketers keen to continue with softball training on Monday nights through the summer can take part in our six remaining sessions for just £20. Please make payments by bank transfer to Watsonian Cricket Club sort code 80-41-21, account number 00939905 with reference ‘AS Offer’ and the surname of your child e.g. AS Offer Smith.
We will be celebrating the development of the club and our players at an end of season junior awards dinner at Myreside Pavilion on 28th September. Keep the date free! More details to follow.
It has been great to be in touch with so many of you over the course of the season so far. The committee members wish you all a wonderful summer break when it comes and ask for your patience if our own holidays mean that we are not our usual responsive selves in the first weeks of July.
