Watsonian CC 2nd XI vs Linlithgow
Myreside:19/05/18 – Match Report
On a stunning spring afternoon at Myreside, Captain Kenneth Rae won the toss and elected to bat on what appeared to be a solid batting surface with ideal overhead conditions.
After a steady start with Brycie and Fab at the crease, putting on a fantastic opening stand of 100 runs and setting up the innings for watsonians.
After Linlithgow had taken the wickets of Bryce 32 , Learmonth 85 and Ramani the ever reliable middle order kicked on with Skipper Rae scoring 31, Robertson contributing 25 taking the total to 195 with 5 overs remaining. Adding a few runs at the end J.Osborne 8 and R.Joshi 6.
Posting 223 as the final score
Looking to defend, the Watsonian bowlers kept it tight in the first 10 with Linlithgow managing just 30 runs.
B.Allen and Chris ‘Freddie’ Willsdon bowling in partnership, and after some clever planning helped to pick up the dangerous first wicket with a short pitched delivery caught at deep cover. Linlithgow looked to continue on chasing down the total with some responsible batting. Watsonians reduced to 10 fielders as S.Ramani was forced to left the field for treatment after a close catching chance. The away team looking to kick on, getting ever closer to the target with the ball being shared around the bowlers in an attempt to keep pace off the ball, but credit to the away side for keeping their heads under pressure and finding the boundary regularly.
After a late flurry of wickets the batting side still managing to get over the line with 1 over to spare and the opening batsman finishing on 72 not out.
A valiant effort, nothing else left to give. We come back next week and look to go again!
