Watsonian cricketers are gearing up for the new season with our last indoor net session at George Watson’s College’s sports centre, just off Colinton Road, this Friday evening, 6.30-8.30 (31 March). We hope that the recent good weather will hold and allow us to start outdoor practices at our Myreside ground in the first week of April! More news of that to come.
We always welcome new players, whatever your age and experience! We have four league sides, who play weekend cricket (mostly Saturday afternoons). Our 1st XI play in the CSL Eastern Premiership; our 2nds play in the East League Division 1; our 3rds are in the East League Division 5; and our 4ths in East League Division 7. Our 1sts play at the top level of club cricket in eastern Scotland, while our other sides play teams in local league cricket, mostly in or near Edinburgh. Each week our teams include players of ages from 12 or 13 up to those in their 60s! Our 4ths in particular often feature father and son combinations. We have some 1sts/2nds friendly matches in mid-April, and the league season starts on 29 April.
We play our home games at either Myreside, just a few minutes from Morningside, whose main entrance is at Myreside Road; or at Craiglockhart, entrance just off Craiglockhart Terrace. There’s plenty of car parking at each ground, but we’re also easily reached by regular bus services. The number 38 service passes the entrance to Myreside; the services 10, 27 and 45 go along Colinton Road, at the bottom end of our Myreside ground and close to the Craiglockhart ground entrance; and both grounds are only a few minutes’ walk off the number 23 service, when it turns at the end of Craighouse Gardens.
We’re delighted that Napier University will be our main sponsors again this season. We’re very handily located for students at the two main Napier University campuses. Even if you’re only in Edinburgh for the university summer term we’d be very happy to see you at our practices and in one of our weekend teams.
